This position is located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
KIDS FIRST serves children with special healthcare needs ranging in age from six weeks to five years. In our pediatric day healthcare clinics, children diagnosed as having a medical condition known to place them at risk for developmental delays and disabilities receive intensive intervention.
The Speech Therapist works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide the evidence-based best practice evaluation and therapy techniques for the birth to 5 population with a variety of communication and/or oral-motor/feeding disorders at Kids First clinic. May provide supervision to speech assistants and/or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) professionals. Travel to other Kids First locations may be required.

Salary offered commensurate to experience
- Implements direct therapy for children, under the direction of the Medical Director, based upon findings from a comprehensive evaluation using evidence-based techniques.
- Collaborates with other therapy professionals, clinical staff and treatment room staff to ensure the most positive outcome for the child.
- Continually monitors progress and makes modifications to treatment plan as needed.
- Evaluates to determine the presence of articulation, language, voice, fluency, prosody, pragmatics, oral-motor and/or feeding disorders using appropriate diagnostic instruments.
- Reviews results of standardized scores along with informed clinical judgment and observations to make the correct diagnosis.
- Translates the obtained information into a professional, typed document along with treatment recommendations, developing appropriate goals and objectives as related to patient’s needs. Confers with the Medical Director when necessary regarding said results/recommendations.
- Documents services provided in a professional, timely manner. Carefully, prepares and provides billing documents according to Kids First and Medicaid guidelines on a weekly basis.
- Verifies accuracy billing documents through careful review of progress notes, treatment room sign-out forms, and child’s individual prescription requirements.
- Ensures minimum requirements are met to maintain state and professional licensure. Maintains knowledge of theories and techniques in the field of articulation, language, voice, fluency, prosody, pragmatics, oral-motor and feeding disorders.
- Monitors the field of communication disorders to ensure knowledge of best practice. Ensures work schedules are met, arrives at work on time, reports to assigned area promptly, requests vacation and non-emergency sick leave in advance, minimizes unplanned absences
- Maintains open communication and models positive interactions with parents and families, staff and visitors.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology,
- Arkansas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist or be eligible to obtain licenses within one (1) month from date of hire
- Certificate of Clinical Competence or eligible pending completion of Clinical Fellowship Year
- Intermediate computer skills
- Pediatric experience preferred.
Candidate must pass state abuse registry checks, drug screen, submit to a TB skin test and required immunizations or provide proof of immunizations.
