GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Associate Tax Accountant will analyze sales, use, and excise tax reporting requirements and data from retail systems, ledgers, invoicing systems, and stock systems to determine indirect tax liability to federal, state, and local taxing authorities. The Associate Tax Accountant also assures compliance with tax laws by preparing and reviewing returns which includes reconciling accounts, participating in audits, and conducting tax research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare and file an average of 1,300 tax returns per month in a timely fashion for tax compliance and product accountability. Prepare monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts related to monthly tax filings.

2. Analyze and compile transactional and financial data from multiple sources. Submit accurate data to the required taxing and reporting jurisdictions in a timely manner.

3. Explain and/or seek to resolve any tax return related issues to customers, suppliers, internal clients, advisory personnel, and taxing authorities.

4. Maintain awareness and understanding of tax law changes by researching state and local tax code and monitoring legislative changes, which leads to implementing changes to tax accounting tools such as financial and back-office programs. Ensure and maintain compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and document changes as needed.

5. Assist with data gathering and analysis for audit purposes.

6. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

• Research state tax codes and monitor law changes
• Maintain tax filing software
• Research technical issues such as data mapping and EDI requirements
• Complete min annual 30 hours of continuing professional education for soft and technical skills.

Focuses on the Customer
• Prepare tax exemption certificate for supervisor/manager approval
• Research and implement filing requirements in new jurisdictions
• Cross functional interaction with other departments to provide tax information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 2 years related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
