GENERAL DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: An occupational therapist(OT/L or OTR/L) responds to referrals in compliance with state laws or other regulatory requirements. In collaboration with the client, evaluates theclient's ability to participate in daily life activities by considering theclient's capacities, the activities, and the environments in which these activities occur. The OT then initiates and directs the screening, evaluation,and re-evaluation process and analyzes and interprets the data in accordance with law, regulatory requirements, and AOTA documents. The OT follows defined protocols when standardized assessments are used and completes and documents occupational therapy evaluation results. The OT abides by the time frames,formats, and standards established by practice settings, government agencies,external accreditation programs, payers, and AOTA documents. The OT then communicates screening, evaluation, and re-evaluation results within the boundaries of client confidentiality to the appropriate person, group, ororganization. The OT may recommend additional consultations or refers clients to appropriate resources when the needs of the client can best be served by the expertise of other professionals or services. The OT educates current andp otential referral sources about the scope of occupational therapy services andthe process of initiating occupational therapy services. The has overall responsibility for the development, documentation, and implementation of the occupational therapy intervention based on the evaluation, client goals,current best evidence, and clinical reasoning. The OT ensures that the intervention plan is documented within the time frames, formats, and standards established by the practice settings, agencies, external accreditation programs,and payers. The OT reviews the intervention plan with the client and appropriate others regarding the rationale, safety issues, and relative benefits and risks of the planned interventions. The OT modifies the intervention plan throughout the intervention process and documents changes inthe client's needs, goals, and performance. The OT is responsible for selecting,measuring, documenting, and interpreting expected or achieved outcomes that arerelated to the client's ability to engage in occupations. The OT is responsible for documenting changes in the client's performance and capacities and fordis continuing services when the client has achieved identified goals, reachedmaximum benefit, or does not desire to continue services. The OT facilitates the transition process in collaboration with the client, family members,significant others, team, and community resources and individuals, whena ppropriate. The OT is responsible for evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the occupational therapy processes and interventions within the practice setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Assesses patient's functional deficits, plans treatment and implements treatment in an appropriate manner in compliance with standards of professional practice.

2. Clinically examine, diagnose, and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body's ability to move and function in daily life.

3. Participates in recruitment of new therapists.

4. Attends appropriate team meetings and communicates/collaborates with other team members, individuals, family membersor caregivers.

5. Terminates treatment when maximal benefits have been attained as well as developing appropriate discharge plans.

6. Maintains records and documentation as required bypractice setting, third party payers and regulatory agencies.

7. Schedules and prioritizes own workload.

8. Monitors own performance and identifies own supervisory needs

9. Functions according to the American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the profession.

10. Supervise support staff.

11. Supervise students on clinical rotations from schools that A.R. Gould Hospital has a contract with.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

LICENSEREQUIREMENTS: Maine State licensure as an occupational therapist is required.

AVAILABILITYREQUIREMENTS: Monday through Friday approximate hours 8-4:30 as this is a salaried position, weekend rotation to cover acutecare clients.

EDUCATIONSKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. New Graduate requirement is a master's degree is requiredfrom an ACOTE accredited occupational therapy program; all others bachelor'sdegree

2. Taking and passing, the National Board for Certificationin Occupational Therapy Exam("NBCOT"), the national certification examination that determines fitness to practice as an occupational therapist

3. Maine State licensure as an occupational therapist isrequired.

4. If trained in another country, must satisfactorily meet State of Maine Licensure requirements and NBCOT.

5.BLS is required within the first week of employment. Employees must maintain CPR certification throughout employment when in aclinical position.

6. De-escalation and workplace violence training will becompleted at hire prior to release from orientation

OCCUPATIONALDEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

9. Wrist Position. Extensive radial & ulna deviation.

10. Pinching. Frequent.

11. Hand/Wrist Repetitions. Frequent.

12. Manual Dexterity. Frequent fine motor skills required.

13. Either Handedness. 70%- 100% of job cycletime.

14. Both Handednesses. 70%-100% of job cycletime.

15. Sight. Requires corrected 20/20 near vision and minimal far vision.

16. Hearing. Can hear whispered voice at eight (8) feet (FAAclass II).

17. Speech. Frequent clear speaking ability required.

18. Exposure to Infection. Moderate.

ENVIRONMENTFACTORS:

1. High/Low Temperature. Work environment 70 -80 F.

2. Noise. Slight, occasionally fairly loud sounds.

3. Working with Others. Close association is frequent and compromises major portion of the job.

4. Confined Spaces or Cramped Body Positions. Work incramped positions/confined spaces (up to 2-3 hours per week).

5. Body Injuries. Slight likelihood of significant traumatic injury - deep cuts, fractures or permanent disabling injuries.

6. Moving Objects. Slight likelihood of significant injury from moving objects.

7. Toxic Conditions. Slight likelihood of exposure to toxic conditions.

8. Working with Others. Great, association is frequent and comprises a major portion of the job.

9. Role Ambiguity. Slight, rarely is it not clear what othersexpect of the worker.

COGNITIVE:

1. Problem-Solving Skills. A high level of problem-solving skills required.

2. Judgment/Assessment. Continuously assesses situations and determines corrective actions needed.

3. Supervision. Supervises support staff and must perform functions involved with supervision of employees in the particular department.

4. Reading/Comprehension. Must be able to read and comprehend greater than Grade 12th level of instructions.

5. Math/Arithmetic. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply,divide, perform fractions, and calculate percentages.

EMOTIONALENVIRONMENT:

1. Composure Under Working Conditions (including demanding,and/or rude, resi­dents/staff/visitors). Must remain calm and exercise self-control inworking relation­ships with patients, staff, and visitors.
